Women’s Scottish Open Returns to Dundonald Links: A Celebration of Women’s Golf in Ayrshire

The excitement is building as the Women's Scottish Open returns to the renowned Dundonald Links in Ayrshire for its third consecutive year, taking place from August 15 to 18, 2024. This event has become a significant stop on both the LPGA and Ladies European Tours since its co-sanctioning in 2017, consistently attracting one of the strongest fields outside of the majors.

Last year's edition saw seven of the world’s top 10 players compete, highlighting the caliber of talent drawn to this prestigious tournament. The return to Dundonald Links in 2022 came after a remarkable £25 million makeover by owners Darwin Escapes, transforming the club into one of the UK’s finest golf resorts. Prior to this, the event was also held at Dundonald Links in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Ricki Lasky, Chief Tour Business and Operations Officer for the LPGA, expressed excitement about returning to Dundonald Links, emphasizing the course's challenge and the opportunity to showcase the incredible skills of world-class athletes, especially as they prepare for the AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews the following week.

The Scottish Government and VisitScotland have been long-standing supporters of women’s golf, committing up to £6 million to The Women’s Scottish Open through to 2025. This partnership has elevated the event's stature, both in terms of field strength and operational sustainability. In 2020, it became the first GEO Certified® Tournament on the Ladies European Tour, recognizing its leadership as a more sustainable golf event.

Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events with VisitScotland, commended Dundonald Links as an exceptional host for the Women’s Scottish Open, highlighting its scenic backdrop along the Ayrshire coastline, which provides the perfect stage for showcasing the world’s best female players. He noted that it's a busy summer for international golf in Scotland, with five professional events taking place throughout July and August, making it an exciting time for the region.

Lindsey Esse, Managing Director of Darwin Escapes, expressed their delight in hosting the Women’s Scottish Open, emphasizing the privilege of showcasing their venue and celebrating the remarkable talent in women’s golf.

This year, World No.3 Celine Boutier will defend her title after securing a commanding three-shot lead to claim victory at last year's event. With two titles to defend this summer, Boutier is eager to return to Scotland and tackle some challenging links golf.

"It's going to be an exciting week at Dundonald this year, especially returning as the defending champion. With two titles to defend this summer, I'm eager to return to Scotland and tackle some challenging links golf," commented Boutier.

The Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links promises to be an exhilarating event, showcasing the best of women’s golf against the stunning backdrop of Ayrshire’s coastline.

If that's enough to entice you into wanting to experience this fantastic course, you may want to experience it during The Open Week itself where we have some amazing stay & play Dundonald Links packages that you can take a look at on the Dundonal Links golf page.
